DreamBox
2-channel video installation, Rotterdam, Holland, June 2005
This 2-channel video piece focuses on containers as units of freight transport. I investigated the history and use of these universal multi-purpose boxes. Modern consumer society is well familiar with them, as we see them on ships, trains and trucks. Stacked in storage yards they dominate the architecture of harbor areas. However, they are a fairly new invention.
I visited industries that handle containers, such as stevedoring companies and recycle yards. I waited on freight train lines for these boxes to pass by. The footage and interviews for this piece were collected in Europe and the United States.
Containers are constantly shifted between countries and continents, carrying tons of goods, which modern society relies upon. The videos also include short pieces of text, in which I describe my experiences while mapping these industrial locations.
